Liver cirrhosis:
You are listening to me because you or somebody in your family is diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. Liver is one of the most important vital organs of the body and of course the moment you hear that you have liver cirrhosis and your liver is failing, everything comes crashing down.
How common is liver cirrhosis?
In India, around 10 lakhs people are diagnosed with liver cirrhosis every year.
What is Liver cirrhosis?
Let us not get into why and how it happens. Let us see what liver cirrhosis is. You need to understand that broadly there are two kinds of liver cirrhosis, alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis.
The most important thing that you need to realize is, liver cirrhosis does not happen only to the people who drink, there are millions of people who drink, every other person in the world drinks but they do not end up having liver cirrhosis right? Unfortunately, if a person who is diagnosed with liver cirrhosis has one or two pegs a day or has alcohol once in a week or a month, everybody pounces on them that it is because of your alcohol that you got liver cirrhosis.
The poor man would have been having alcohol once in a week, 10 days, or a month but unfortunately got liver cirrhosis and that is it, the blame game starts that it is because of his drinking. As it is the man who has liver cirrhosis, he does not have too many options in life, adding to that you are making him feel guilty for the alcohol that he has had in his life. Now my question to you is, what about those people who do not drink and still get liver cirrhosis, what are you gonna tell them?
There are people who drink alcohol day in and day out and they don't get liver cirrhosis. It is just destiny that some people get liver cirrhosis. Sometimes a bad liver tendency runs in the family.
Symptoms of liver cirrhosis:
Most people either have bleeding or some stomach issues. They have internal bleeding, vomit blood, stomach pain, gases, bloating, nausea, and more. Once they start bleeding they do to the doctor.
Allopathic approach:
The doctor makes you go through some tests and diagnoses you with liver cirrhosis. They do surgery and they are rectified. Once they come back home, they are off alcohol for a week, 10 days but they go back to alcohol again and all the symptoms start again. Liver cirrhosis patient keeps going to the hospital, comes back, drinks again, and goes to the hospital again. This goes on.
You need to understand that these people are alcoholics, particularly the ones who have alcoholic liver cirrhosis and the basic nature of the alcoholic is, I do not mind dying but I would like to drink and die. I do not want to stop drinking and live further, that is their basic attitude to life. Whatever you do it is very difficult to change them. There are some people who get scared, they want to live and stop drinking but they continue to have some problems because their liver is kind of dying and it is very difficult to get it back.
The other option in allopathy is a liver replacement which is a huge process legally and financially. It is a big thing and not everybody can go through it.
Homeopathic approach:
We have been successfully treating a lot of cases of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis. Liver is a fantastic organ, even if you cut off a part of the liver it can function, it has got the capability to adapt and perform. Homeopathy has medicines that have a very good tendency to cure the liver. Our medicines help to enhance the function of the liver and once the liver starts to function normally, the LFT levels come down slowly. Along with medications, counselling is very important for people with alcoholic cirrhosis.
Once you start on homeopathic medicines within few months, the episodes of bleeding, stomach pain, and discomfort comes down. We have been able to manage some of them with an occasional drink too.
If you are diagnosed with liver cirrhosis contact a homeopathic doctor, they will surely be able to help you. I am not saying we can cure your liver cirrhosis but we can keep you alive and manage your symptoms fairly well.
People who are already on allopathic medications:
We ask them to continue allopathic medicines along with homeopathic medicines. Allopathy does not have many options except liver tonics and stuff like that and you can continue them along with homeopathy.
What happens if you leave it alone?
(If left alone, the scarring of liver increases and it could lead to complications like gastrointestinal bleeding, ascites, and in worst cases it can lead to liver failure.)
Diet restrictions:
(Avoid alcohol and foods that are rich in fats, sugar, and salt. Include healthy foods like fruits and vegetables.)
Dos and Donts:
The first thing is to stop blaming people with liver cirrhosis, they only get worse by that, a negative and sad mind will not let the body recover at all. It is very important to make them realize that it is okay that you have liver cirrhosis, anybody could have liver cirrhosis and it is not because of the drinks that you had. I am not talking about people who drink 24 hours and have liver cirrhosis, all right, it is because of the alcohol but most of the people do not drink so frequently.
Try alternative systems like homeopathy and Ayurveda. Start yoga, Pranayama, and meditation.
What would I do if I had liver cirrhosis?
Well if I had non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis I would definitely take homeopathic medications. Would I go for a liver transplant? Maybe not, I strongly believe in my destiny, I believe that the number of breaths I am meant to take in this world is already determined. I do not believe that anybody can extend my life but the quality of life that I want to live is my choice and I will choose to have a quality life rather than a quantity life. I would enjoy my life and keep going as long as I am meant to go but I would not go in for any aggressive treatment that is my personal perspective.
Do not start on any allopathic medicines or go for surgery until you have given homeopathy a try for at least about three to six months. Trust me, nothing is going to happen to you in these three to six months time. But if these medicines can help you avoid surgery and help you manage your liver cirrhosis, isn't it worth giving it a try?
Take care. Stay safe.
